|James Hill Elementary - Grade 2/3 Division 6.|
Our first job was to draw an alien. Then we had to write about it. We had to describe what it looks like, what kind of personality it has, what planet or place it comes from, and what that place is like.
The next day we started our 3D art. We used plasticine. We had to make it the same colour as we drew it. We had to add details to our models to match our drawings.
We added texture to our models and details all over. Some tools we used to help us make the texture were forks, straws, pencils, erasers, our hands and fingers.
When we were done we put them in the library display case.
Come and check out our Alien Invasion in the library!
Our alien stories will go on our bulletin board for all to read!
Students worked really well at this activity and the models are amazing! Great work Division 6!
First we folded the paper and we cut it like a heart. We glued it to the mailbag envelope.
We took the iPads outside and took pictures of natural hearts. In the sand area, we made hearts out of sticks, rocks and leaves. We found hearts carved in and spray painted on trees. In the classroom, we found hearts on a monkey on a quilt. We found them on playing cards. We found them in a student's desk - she had an elastic band heart. People were following some students because they had hearts on their shirt and their earrings. We drew them on the whiteboard, and found them beside the word "February". There were also hearts in the snowflakes we made in December. There is also a heart that says Valentine's Day!
You can find hearts here, there and everywhere!
Thank you for reading this blog.
Love, Division 6.
P.S. Go Team Canada!
Today is Chinese New Year and we made dragons. We made them out of paper. Once we were done making them, we went outside and made dragon dances.
It is important to celebrate Chinese New Year because there are lots of different people in Canada. We have different coloured skin. We have different languages and countries. Different people were born in different places. It is a good thing because it makes Canada a special place. We are not from the same place and we are not the same. If we were all the same, Canada would be boring!
It was fun making up our own dragon dances. At the end of our blog post are the videos of dragon dances that we watched today.
Happy Chinese New Year!
We studied Ted Harrison for art today. He used a lot of blue because he liked it. We got ideas of words that start with each letter of the alphabet, and will do a drawing for each one. Each student got one letter to work on.
We watched the Smurfs 2 movie because we got 200 points. We got to bring our stuffies for when we watched it. It was fun.
Doing math was fun with the 2 digit addition. It was fun because we learned, which is good for you.
We started studying space this week. We started with the sun. We think the asteroid belt will be fun to learn about. Where are all of the dwarf planets?
Today was grade 3 day for floor hockey. Students from our class played. Blue and Green won against Red and Yellow 4 - 0.
We also danced with Mr. Wejr. It was funny! We danced to Sid the sloth, the wishy-washy washer woman and the Gummi Bear song.

Here are the pictures we drew of our favourite parts :)
We made some winter art with Christmas trees and snowmen. We would like to tell you about how we made them.
To make the Christmas trees, first we painted a white piece of paper green. Then we put them in the hall to dry. When it was dry we drew a tree on the back and cut it out. Then we got white paint and painted the branches. We had to use upward strokes to make it look like snow on the branches. We added details by dipping the end of the paint brush into red or yellow paint to make the decorations.
To make the snowmen we cut out three circles out of white paper. We glued them together and out lined them with black. When you outline something it makes it stand out more. Then we drew on the face and buttons. Finally we cut out hats and scarves and arms. Each one is original!
Abby thought it was fun because we got to put our own ideas into making the snowman. Jake likes the way they look on the bulletin board because some snowmen are hiding in the trees. Si Woo enjoyed the activity because she likes arts and crafts. Katie, Lily and Rylan liked it because they really like snowmen. Jefferson, Valerie and Savin like to decorate things. Isabell really enjoys painting. Dominic liked it because he thought the snowmen and Christmas trees go well together.
We had a lot of fun reading the book When Pigasso Met Mootise by Nina Laden. In the book there was a picture of splatter paint and it was funny. The book had art that looks like Picasso and Matisse. Jordan connected to the story when the artists were mean to each other. It reminded him of when his brother is mean to him. Isabell connected to the splatter paint because she has splatter painted at a birthday before. Sahil also connected to the splatter because in kindergarten he did splatter paint. He threw the brush and splattered paint all over himself! Gavin likes painting. Colton's connection is because his mom is an artist. Jake likes painting because it's fun and you can make pictures that are not real, or sometimes real. Ryan's connection is like Jordan's. His sister is mean to him, too. Valerie's cousin is sometimes mean. When we make connections to how our family can be mean sometimes, we want to say that we love them always.
Thank you for reading.
